African Queer Manifesto


About 30 activists from 12 African countries met between 16 and 18 April 2010 in Nairobi, Kenya, at a meeting co-convened by the Lesbian and Gay Equality Project and Kenyan based Fahamu to discuss winning and defending LGBTI equality in Africa. One of the outcomes of the meeting was the Queer Declaration below.  Programme Aims

    * To capacitate grassroots activists to be in the forefront of raising awareness in their communities;

    * To build political and ideological foundations to enhance social justice activism on behalf of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) people in communities;

    * To deepen our understanding of and our advocacy work on issues of sexuality, sexual preference, orientation and the concept of social power;

    * To develop innovative education methods to help pass on the learnings of the programme to other communities.
