Gay activists attack Ugandan preacher's porn slideshow

A Ugandan pastor who screened same-sex pornography in a church to try to bolster support for proposed anti-homosexuality legislation has been condemned by gay rights groups.

Martin Ssempa, one of the main backers of a Bill that would impose the death penalty for some offenders, aired the explicit slideshow to several hundred people during a church service in Kampala on Wednesday. Explaining his decision to display the images, the evangelical preacher said it was necessary to educate people "about what homosexuals do".

Malawi launches operation against high-profile gay and lesbian people

Police in Malawi have launched an operation to hunt down and arrest high-profile gays and lesbians in the southern African state.

Fears of an anti-gay backlash across Africa are intensifying after the prosecution of the first gay couple to seek marriage in Malawi, and thousands of Ugandans demonstrated this week in support of a bill proposing the death penalty for some offences involving homosexual acts.

Malawi police arrest man in anti-gay sweep

Police in Malawi say they have arrested a man in what they describe as a sweep against homosexuals.

There is a debate over gay rights in the conservative Southern African country, sparked by the trial of a gay couple charged with unnatural acts and gross indecency, felonies for which they could
be imprisoned for up to 14 years.

Cuba y Venezuela firman un acuerdo para promover el respeto a las personas LGTB

Aprovechando la clausura del Congreso Cubano de Educación, Orientación y Terapia Sexual, del que informábamos hace unos días, Cuba y Venezuela firmaron el pasado viernes un acuerdo de colaboración en educación sexual que entre otros objetivos busca impulsar el respeto a los derechos de los homosexuales y combatir la homofobia como políticas de Estado en ambos países.

En virtud del acuerdo, el Centro Nacional de Educación Sexual de Cuba (CENESEX), dirigido por Mariela Castro, capacitará a unos 800 funcionarios de la Defensoría del Pueblo de Venezuela en temas de diversidad sexual e identidad de género. La intención es que el acuerdo se haga extensivo a otros países del ALBA (Alianza Bolivariana para las Américas), un mecanismo de integración regional del que forman parte además Bolivia, Nicaragua o Ecuador.
